Beau’s Portuguese Picks under $20

Hello to all who Imbibe!

Portugal is recognized in the wine world for their illustrious fortified wines and affordable red wines. Although the region is world renown, their wines have flown under the radar here in the States. I am pleased to say we have three different offerings here in house that will change the way you think about wines from this prestigious nation.

2015 Quinta Do Tedo Douro Red: $18.91
Winemaking in the Douro has been around since the medieval times and has become the premier growing region in all of Portugal. Vincent Bouchard, scion of Burgundy juggernaut Bouchard Pere et Fils, family bought Quinta do Tedo in 1992 in virtual ruin. Since then he has resurrected the estate and turned it into one of the finest Portugal has to offer. His Douro red, a blend of native Portuguese grapes Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, highlights the diversity of the province. Deep ruby in color with hues of black fruit and vanilla flowing from the glass. On the palate deep tannins combine with ripe fruit and intense complexity to make for incredibly balanced finish.

Ramos Pinto NV White Port: $14.99
Ramos Pinto was established in 1880 by two brothers and have been on the forefront of innovation in viticulture while maintaining a devout respect for their traditional roots. Their white port highlights the route they take in making long-established wines with new flair. The wine is crafted using extended skin contact and wood aging methods to create a much richer and complex port. Aromas of honey and almond leap from the glass followed by fresh fruit and resinous taste on the palate.

2017 Grao Vasco Carvalhais: $8.99
Of all the Portuguese wines we have to offer here at Imbibe, this one is easily my favorite. In 2014 Beatriz Cabral de Almeida took over the winemaking reins at the estate and has elevated the level of these wines with every vintage she has overseen. The 2017 vintage highlights the rise in elegance while keeping prices stable. Deep red in color with young fresh fruit and floral nuances that illuminate your glass from start to finish.
