2012 was a great year for Imbibe, thanks to all of our loyal customers, and we hope that you are able to come join us for some of our January events! We look forward to tasting our Top 100 Wines and Top 25 Beers with you this month and also enjoying some fantastic wine flights on our Friday Wine Bars. As always, we will have live jazz each Tuesday and Thursday and live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Check out our schedule for event specifics, but stop by anytime to just enjoy a glass of wine or a beer with us!

Performing At Imbibe Wine & Spirits

Who: SugarBeat is an acoustic tour of 3 jazzy singer-songwriters from Nashville who put on a fun, sexy show. Each of the three women is an artist of their own right, but together they are unstoppable. These dynamic performers like to put some sugar on the beat and entertain with their intricate harmonies and clever tunes.

What: 2 hours of great music where the wine and beer bar are open for your enjoyment!

When: June 21st, 2010 – 5 PM

Where: Imbibe Wine & Spirits, Bakersfield, CA

Why: Really? Why? It’s cause they’re amazing, of course!

Here’s what RON BROWNING, a Nashville Voice and Performance Coach, had to say about this great group, “SUGARBEAT is just plain fun, sweet, and groovy—not to mention totally infectious.  All 3 girls are clever writers and masterful vocalists. Nice blends of jazz, blues, pop, and swing. Inventive backup vocals with sophisticated harmonies, framed by crisp, hooky rhythms and tasteful riffs on their electric guitars.  The spontaneous “girlie” patter in between songs is as equally entertaining as their music. Something UNIQUE is being born with this act.  So POP the cork and enjoy their effervescence!”

We were greeted by sunshine on Saturday morning as we began setting up for our Argentine wine tasting and BBQ. The beautiful weather persisted throughout the day and soon enough the intoxicating smells of wood being fired to heat the grills filled the air.

Our guests starting filtering through the door right on time and were greeted with smiles and excitement as the staff was prepared to share some of our favorite finds from the Southern Hemisphere. We had a bit of everything from lesser known producers to wines brought to us by the skilled hands of Paul Hobbs who’s single vineyard Napa Valley wines command hundreds of dollars upon release. Folks swirled and sipped, some were surprised, some knew what to expect, but everybody was delighted by the intrinsic quality of what was offered.

All of that tasting can create quite an appetite, and when the food was ready the lines grew quickly. Classic BBQ flavors with hints of South American style greeted your taste buds. If you were digging in to the ribs your napkin quickly became your best friend. Filet with chimichurri, and chicken with Spanish influenced cream sherry sauce, accompanied by a unique salad and savory rice rounded out the meal.

As things started to wind down people hit the stacks of wine hard to grab their selections from the tasting to take home and share with their friends. As the wine flew out the door we got the shop ready for the evening crowd. As luck would have it we have a handful of wine still here and available for those who had to miss the event. Come by if you get a chance and we will get some of these can’t miss wines in your hands before they run out on us.

In the Torrontes category,  favorite Don David Torrontes by Michel Torino is still available. Extremely floral nose, but crisp on the palate. A great summer sipper at $14.99. Other popular choices were Aymara ($14.99) and Colome ($11.99).

If Chardonnay is your thing, Argentina has some well-balanced and affordable versions to offer. Try Alamos (a perennial Imbibe Top 100 selection, $11.91), Catena Alta Chard ($33.99), Nieto Chard ($9.99), or Sophenia Chard Reserve ($15.99).  There’s something for every palate here.

Malbec, Malbec, Malbec! This grape loves Argentina.  We’ve got Alamos (of course, $12.91), Amancaya Malbec/Cab blend ($20.99), Colome ($23.99), Don Nicanor ($15.99), Enamore ($27.99) and Gascon (another Top 100 favorite, $10.99)

Without question Argentina produces some of the most outstanding and over-delivering wines in the world today. Modeled after our Top 100 Tasting, we will have more than fifty wines open to taste along with a BIG TIME BBQ with our good friend Jeff Stewart on the grill. • Garnish with an orange peel

Here’s some great video footage of our Grand Opening Event Sunday, October 25th, courtesy of our very own Imbiber, Josh Ochoa. Our goal for this fundraiser was $3,600, but with your generosity more than $5,600 was raised that evening in support of CASA. That’s enough to pay for three new advocates here in Kern County.
